The army operation in Swat and Malakand is a “fight for the defence of Pakistan and its people” that will be taken to its commonsensical end, said federal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Babar Awan on Friday. Winding up dispute on the situation in Swat and Malakand in the National Assembly, the minister said, “This operation has been launched in reaction to violations of the peace union by the Taliban, and the military horrible will continue until ... the reimbursement of peace and the establishment of the summons of the state.” He called on the Taliban to give up to the writ of the government. Talks: The minister said that doors for talks were still open, but for that, “the Taliban will have to put down down their arms, abolish their masks and accept the power of the government ... the supremacy of parliament, the creation and the rule of law”. Babar said the operation would pursue a ‘policy of sustainable peace’ in the region. “We will leave a sustainable system for harmony in the area under our way out policy. We will take all stakeholders into assurance,” he added. The minister also cast off that the operation had been launched under US stress. He said the government signed the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation in spite of antagonism from home and abroad and exhausted all peaceful options to normalize the condition. He said the army launched the operation with the right of parliament, cabinet, the people of Pakistan and the media. “The prime minister also took the political headship into self-reliance before calling in the army in his televised speech,” he said. He said Pakistan could not give up to a “handful of Taliban who want to impose their philosophy at gunpoint”. “We have to compress them ... these fundamentals want to undermine Pakistan. Although, there is difference of opinion [among members] over certain things, one thing is ordinary, and that is concern about Pakistan,” he said. The minister said the administration was aware of the troubles being faced by outer displaced persons (IDPs). He said that government had traditional a special support group to institutionalise aid activities.
