PEPCO modernizing its systems to strengthen its power distribution system


LAHORE: Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) is put all possible tireless human and financial efforts in research and expansion to introduce modern technology in strengthening and improvement its power distribution systems.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, Innovation and originality based research, blended with the worldwide trends and practices is being conducted in various distribution companies of PEPCO on the instructions of its MD to make the best use of technological advancements in the power sector and strengthen the power distribution system and get better its related services.
It is said that LESCO being one of the distribution companies of PEPCO, has undertake various projects fruitfully, namely, the AMR (automatic meter reading), Transformer’s protection and ERP (Enterprise resource planning) projects are worth mentioning, which will altogether improve the performance of the sharing companies in supplying the electricity to the customers.
It further that its research and development cell is working on Automatic Meter Reading project, which involves a state of the art computer network based system enabling the distribution companies to control and execute connection & disconnection procedures from the head office.
Complete consumption of the consumer can be monitored to detect electricity theft and also ensure accurate billing to save consumers from any inconvenience.
The transformer protection switches are also being introduced to save the transformers from any damage due to abrupt increase in the electricity load thus reduction a substantial amount of money necessary for their repair or purchase.
PEPCO said that another very sophisticated and contemporary technology based program E R P is also being implemented which will establish a net work, linking all departmental offices, field offices and stores to enable the managers take punctual decisions and carry out tasks expeditiously.
It said that this hard work will not only improve the power allocation system but also will enable the management to control the load. As per the daily load location the total electricity demand went up to 15734 MW on 26 July and a deficit of 2401 MW was managed, which was 4520 MW last year on the same date.
Electricity export to Karachi was 690 MW on 26 June 2009 as compare to 540 MW last year on the same day.
