Karachi several areas sans power suffer third day in a row

KARACHI: The worst power crisis in the city continues, as the citizens in several areas languishing for the third consecutive day without power and water lost all of their patience and went on a rampage burning tyres, blocking roads and rioting.Sindh Governor said that KESC performance was not satisfactory, while the chief minister’s advisor demanded that an FIR should be registered against KESC for the loss of valuable lives due to electrocution during the rain.Following the Friday and Saturday nights’ rain, the city of Karachi was thrown into pitch darkness, as power went off due to massive breakdown, which persists even today for the third day in several parts of the sprawling city.KESC officials in their daily briefing said that nothing could be said as to when the power supply would be restored, while the Karachiites sans electricity are facing dual problems, as potable water could not be pumped without power, unleashing an acute scarcity of water also. The citizens pricked by these unbearable problems came out of their homes protesting on the roads and streets in different localities. Railway Reti Line residents staging a sit-in on the railway line stopped the Peshawar bound Khushhal Khan Express. The demonstrators said that electricity remained cut off for the third day in their quarters, also creating a worst water crisis. They said that the railway officers were enjoying regular electricity and water supply in the nearby bungalows. Later, on the assurance of railway and police officials the demonstrators called off the sit-in.On the other hand, CM Advisor, Sharmila Faruqui talking to Geo News demanded that an FIR should be registered against KESC for the murders of three persons including the KESC staff, who were electrocuted to death during rains, as all these deaths occurred due to inept KESC.
